There is also a Plagiarism Check module that searches for matching source material and auto-generates citations. For schools, the Professional tier includes LMS Integrations for platforms like Canvas and Google Classroom.
The Pricing Gotcha
The free tier lets you run basic scans, but if you want to use it seriously, you will hit limits quickly. The entry-level Premium plan costs $9.99 per month if you pay monthly, but that drops to $6.99 per month on the annual plan. It caps you at 300,000 words per month.
The Professional plan jumps to $19.99 per month ($13.99 annually) for 500,000 words, adding batch file uploads - up to 250 files at once - and the LMS integrations. The major limitation here is that an unlimited option does not exist on the standard tiers. Even on the paid plans, you are buying a word allowance. If you are scanning hundreds of student essays, that 300,000-word cap can vanish in a week.
The Reality of False Positives
The biggest issue with GPTZero is not its pricing, but its accuracy on human writing. If you read through Reddit threads discussing the tool, the consensus is overwhelmingly critical. A common Reddit complaint is that polished, well-structured human writing frequently triggers the AI detector.
Because the tool looks for structural consistency, students and professionals who naturally write with clear, predictable formatting are getting flagged. The statistical fingerprinting method means that good human writing often mimics the exact traits the detector associates with AI.
