Mockuuups Studio Review: Real Studio Photography Without the Photoshop Tax
For over a decade, producing device mockups meant hunting down 500MB PSD files on freebie sites, double-clicking smart objects in Photoshop, and praying your laptop fan survived the export. Mockuuups Studio was built by Czech founders David and Marek in 2014 to eliminate that entire ceremony. Instead of layered raster files, the platform provides a native desktop app and plugins for Figma, Sketch, Penpot, and Adobe Express that project static screenshots onto more than 5,300 studio-shot photo mockups in a single click.
The primary appeal is instant volume. When you select a frame in Figma, Mockuuups Studio automatically maps your screen into thousands of scenes at once. Rather than positioning your UI onto one phone angle at a time, you scroll through a live gallery showing your product held in diverse hands, propped on sunlit desks, tucked into denim pockets, or staged on concrete blocks. The library is updated promptly when hardware refreshes occur; new iPhone and Google Pixel models typically appear within weeks of release, complete with clay models alongside official color finishes. For presentations where you need ten varied angles in two minutes, nothing else matches the sheer speed.
Pricing: Subscription vs. The Export Pack Escape Hatch
Mockuuups Studio offers two different paths to commercial licensing, and the best option depends strictly on your project cadence.
An individual Professional subscription costs 14 € per month billed annually (162,40 € per year) or 23 € on monthly billing. It grants unlimited high-resolution exports, automated website screenshot captures via URL, and shareable preview links. Teams pay 20 € per user per month billed annually (487,20 € per year for the two-seat minimum), adding SAML SSO, team version history, and a local-only rendering mode that guarantees visual assets never touch external servers. Mac users should note that the desktop app is also included in a standard Setapp subscription.
If you only prepare client pitch decks once or twice a year, ongoing subscriptions are unnecessary. Mockuuups Studio sells one-off export packs: 1 export for 5,60 €, 3 for 15,60 €, 5 for 24,50 €, or 10 for 44 € (4,40 € per export). Every paid export includes an unrestricted commercial-use license that remains valid indefinitely, even if you never spend another cent.
The free tier, however, is purely an evaluation sandbox. You get five trial exports and access to a small free collection, but everything generated under the Personal License requires public attribution and strictly forbids client work, advertising campaigns, or any commercial product presentations.
Plugin Quirks and Staging Limitations
The workflow is fast, but it is not without friction.
Discussions on Reddit and Setapp frequently point out that the Figma plugin can behave erratically during long design sessions. Users report intermittent frame-detection failures where updating an existing Figma layout fails to sync with the plugin, forcing designers to close the window, re-select the frame, or re-run the generator from scratch. Occasional session timeouts inside the plugin iframe add minor annoyances when working against tight deadlines.
More importantly, Mockuuups Studio is strictly an image compositor, not a 3D staging tool. The scenes are real photographs shot with fixed focal lengths, fixed lighting rigs, and fixed angles. You cannot spin a virtual camera to find an arbitrary perspective, you cannot adjust environmental shadows, and you cannot customize prop colors with HSL sliders. If your brand guidelines require custom camera fly-throughs or animated video renders, specialized 3D tools like Rotato are much better suited.
The Bottom Line
Pick Mockuuups Studio if you build web and mobile interfaces in Figma and need clean, realistic editorial device photos for client decks, App Store screenshots, and marketing landing pages without managing PSD templates. The 10-pack export option at 44 € is one of the fairest pricing models in the design space for occasional project work.
Skip Mockuuups Studio if you need animated 3D video showcases, granular control over scene lighting, or a genuinely usable free tier for client deliverables.
